Audio-Technica ATH-M50X Headphones Review
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Studio Monitor Headphones are a mobile-oriented version of Audio-Technica’s popular ATH-M50 headphones. They’re regarded as the polar opposite of Beats, with significantly better sound, durability, and price than Beats headphones. In fact, they sold at half the price of the original $300 Beats by Dre Studio. However, a problem that people had with the ATH-M50 that has not been addressed in the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Studio Monitor Headphones is the lack of an inline remote and microphone. A lot of people had been using them on the go, so the absence of a remote and microphone was pretty inconvenient. Let’s get to the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X Headphones Review.
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Studio Monitor Headphones come in black, white, and blue, and the three different cords that come with them all match your chosen color. The cords are 9.8 feet and 3.9 feet long, along with a coiled 3.9-9.8 feet long cable. Considering that a big criticism of the ATH-M50 was its lack of an inline microphone and remote, you would think that this would be addressed in the ATH-M50X. However, none of the three cables have either an integrated microphone or a remote. Also, there’s no known adapter that is available to modify the headphones to accommodate either a microphone or a remote.
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Studio Monitor Headphones are nearly identical to the ATH-M50, with a few alterations. The earcups have improved padding and the headphone’s cords are all detachable.
Audio-Technica ATH-M50X Headphones Review: STURDY, WELL BUILT, TOP QUALITY STUDIO HEADPHONES
The ATH-M50X is well-built and very sturdy, with a design that feels like it’ll hold up well over time. Its cords have heavy-duty, reinforced plugs, which does a great job of keeping the end of the cord from fraying. The thickly-padded earcups swivel on two axes and the headphone itself folds flat for easy storage. However, the case they come with is essentially just a bag. It won’t do anything for protecting your Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Studio Monitor Headphones.
The ‘M’ in the model name stands for “monitor”, which is the type of headphones they are. They look and sound exactly like the kind of headphones you would find in a recording studio. In fact, some people use them for that purpose.
HOT SUMMER EARS
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Studio Monitor Headphones weigh just less than 10 ounces, so they’re not exactly light. They are, however, comfortable to wear and fit quite nicely. And, because they’re over-the-ear headphones with a closed-back design, they will make your ears pretty hot on warmer days.
The tonal balance of these headphones is very accurate and stereo imaging is spacious and incredibly immersive. The dynamic impact of your music is brought out by these headphones in a way that doesn’t overpower the music itself but is still powerful. We found in this Audio-Technica ATH-M50X Headphones Review that the sound quality across all tones is clearer and richer than the ATH-M50, as well.

Summary The ATH-M50X have an incredible quality for their low price, with excellent tonal balance and crisp sound. They’re durable, comfortable, and listening to songs of any genre with them is fantastic. However, it is a bit disappointing that Audio-Technica tucked their tail between their legs when it came to adding a microphone and remote to the cords.
